Epiduo contains adapalene 0.1% and benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. These two active ingredients work differently on the skin. Adapalene is a retinoid that stops pimples from forming underneath the skin while reducing redness and inflammation. Benzoyl peroxide is an antibiotic that kills bacteria and promotes peeling of the top layer of skin, helping to remove blackheads and whiteheads from the surface of the skin and reducing the number of pimples that form in individuals with moderate to severe acne.

We also charge a $40 medication consultation, which includes unlimited access to our medical team for a full year.
- How is Epiduo used?
Before applying, it’s important to clean your skin with a mild soap and lukewarm water. Wash your hands both before and after applying, and apply a moisturizer after using if needed. Use a pea-sized amount of Epiduo, and spread a thin layer over all affected areas. Avoid getting into eyes or mouth. It can take up to 12 weeks of daily to see full results.
- How easy is it to get Epiduo?
Before you can use it, you need to be assessed by a provider to see if your acne might respond well to treatment with Epiduo. If so, they’ll prescribe it for you. Epiduo is available at most pharmacies, but requires a prescription from a doctor. The cost may be covered in whole or in part by your insurance. At Nurx we offer Epiduo with insurance or with affordable out-of-pocket pricing. Just answer a few questions and after reviewing your health history our medical providers will prescribe it, if appropriate. We'll deliver the medication to your door in discreet packaging.
- What precautions should I take before using Epiduo?
Check with your provider before using Epiduo if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding. It may not be safe for use during these times. You should not use Epiduo if you are allergic to adapalene (Differin) or benzoyl peroxide. Tell your provider if you are using other medicated skin products, as using more than one acne medication at the same time could cause skin irritation. Avoid using Epiduo Pump on wounds or on areas of eczema, and be careful not to get Epiduo gel in your mouth, nose, eyes, or on your lips.
- Are there any known side effects of using Epiduo?
The most common side effects are itchy, red skin and dryness of skin. You could also experience burning at the site of application and skin irritation. These usually clear up after about 2 weeks as your body gets used to using Epiduo.
- Can I use Epiduo with other medications?
Though many medications are compatible with Epiduo, you should check with your provider before applying it. You should not use other acne medications while using Epiduo—this includes benzoyl peroxide and adapalene. Some products may even make your skin more sensitive to light and sun. If you need help picking an acne medication that won’t conflict with others in your routine, talk to a provider.
