Amethia Lo

Amethia Lo is a form of daily birth control that is used to prevent pregnancy and limit other symptoms of menstruation and hormones. It is a combination birth control pill that uses a progestin and an estrogen. Unlike most combination pills, which follow a 28-day cycle, Amethia Lo follows a 91-day cycle. Women who take Amethia Lo will receive 91 pills on three trays. The first two trays have 28 active pills each, while the last tray has 28 active pills plus seven inactive pills. Nurx™ does currently offer Amethia Lo.

FAQ

  • What Makes Amethia Lo Effective?

When taken correctly, Amethia Lo can be more than 90% effective at preventing pregnancy. Amethia Lo lessens periods by creating a thin uterine lining, which also prevents any fertilized eggs from latching on. The hormones also block ovulation so that there are no eggs to fertilize. Finally, Amethia Lo blocks sperm from passing through the cervix, limiting the risk of fertilizing any eggs that might have gotten out.

  • Where Can I Get Amethia Lo?

Women who want to use Amethia Lo need a prescription from their doctors. However, once they have the prescription, they can find Amethia Lo at most local pharmacies. The 90-day pill cycle makes Amethia Lo a little more expensive than other combination pills.

If you do not have health insurance or cannot access Amethia Lo near you, our team at Nurx might be able to help. Check out our list of states that we operate in to see if you can use our services.

  • What Precautions Should I Take Before Starting Amethia Lo?

Let your doctor know if you have any allergies before you start Amethia Lo. They may recommend alternative birth control methods to prevent a reaction. Also, be sure to mention any medications that you are on before you start taking the pill. These medications may cancel out the birth control and increase your risk of getting pregnant.

  • What Are the Side Effects?

Almost every type of medication comes with side effects, and Amethia Lo is no exception. A few side effects that you may experience include nausea, bloating, weight changes, swelling of the hands and feet, moodiness, breast tenderness, and irregular spotting between periods. These symptoms will likely pass as your body adapts to the medication.

There are some severe side effects found in patients who take Amethia Lo. While these are uncommon, it is important to be aware of them. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience chest pain, abdominal pain, a rapid heart beat, yellowing of the skin or eyes, significant bleeding, or severe depression.

  • Does Amethia Lo Cause Weight Gain?

Everyone reacts to birth control differently. While Amethia Lo does not directly cause weight gain, some women may notice small increases in weight (around 5 to 10 pounds) when they start taking this pill.

  • Does Amethia Lo Cause Acne?

Amethia Lo has not been proven to cause acne. On the contrary, it may actually improve your acne symptoms. Birth control regulates hormones, and many women notice they have clearer skin because of it.

  • What Else Should I Know About Amethia Lo?

Amethia Lo is most effective when taken at the same time each day. Missing days increases your risk of getting pregnant. If you miss two periods in a row, or miss one period after not taking Amethia Lo correctly, then you may be pregnant.

Amethia Lo is taken orally, so if you experience vomiting or gastrointestinal distress after taking the pill, then it may not be effective. Use backup birth control until the nausea passes. If nausea persists as a side effect of Amethia Lo, consider taking the pill with a meal or taking it at night before bed.
