Slynd is a progestin-only oral contraceptive that uses drospirenone as a female hormone. It is a birth control pill that is helpful for treating migraines in women. Unlike other birth control pill options without estrogen, Slynd offers a 24-hour missed pill window in case you forget to take it. Slynd can also be used for treating premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and acne in women.

How does Slynd work?
Slynd birth control pill consists of 24 active pills which contain progestin and 4 inactive pills which contain no hormones. The 24/4 dose regimen results in less hormone withdrawal and improves acne, migraines, pelvic pain, headaches, breast tenderness, and bloating symptoms that can happen with 21/7 regiments.
Are there any known side effects of Slynd?
Of course, all medications have side effects. As with most oral contraceptives, Slynd has a very low risk of serious side effects. However, there are some common ones that you should look out for and report to your healthcare provider if they occur: nausea, acne, bloating, weight gain, headache, and breast tenderness. It’s also possible that it could lead to menstrual irregularities.
Can I take Slynd with other medications?
Before taking any other medication, you should speak to your healthcare provider or pharmacist about your prescription, supplements, and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. Some drugs may cause hormonal birth control to be less effective. Tell your provider if you are taking any drugs that can raise your potassium level, such as ACE inhibitors and NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen).
Who should not take Slynd?
Those who are allergic to any of its ingredients and those with a sensitivity to hormones. Women who have or have had blood clots, breast cancer, heart disease, stroke or liver disease should not use hormonal birth control. It is also not recommended for women who are at risk for getting these conditions. A woman’s individual health history should be discussed with her healthcare provider to determine if she can use Slynd.
Does Slynd cause hair loss?
It's not likely to do so. While taking hormonal birth control can affect hair's growth and resting periods, it is more commonly experienced with implants and shots. If you have a family history of hair thinning, talk to your doctor about whether Slynd will increase your chances for hair loss.
