Buspirone HCl

Buspirone HCl is used to relieve symptoms of anxiety and treat anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder. It may be used alone or in conjunction with other medications as part of a combination therapy. Buspirone HCl belongs to a group of medications called anxiolytics, which are commonly used to treat anxiety and anxiety disorders.

Buspirone HCl works by affecting serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Buspirone HCl increases the action of serotonin receptors, lessening anxiety. It has been proven to be particularly effective in treating generalized anxiety disorder. Buspirone HCl may help you think more clearly and worry less. It is also less likely to cause drowsiness or have any sedative effects than other anxiety medications.

The most common side effects of buspirone HCl include dizziness, headache, insomnia, and nausea. While these side effects tend to improve with time, if they continue after a couple of weeks you should contact your provider, as there may be another issue causing your symptoms.

Buspirone HCl is usually taken twice per day but can also be taken three times per day depending on your dose. Follow your provider’s instructions, and do not take more or less than prescribed by your provider.

If you have been prescribed a certain medication, it’s important to ask your provider if there are any interactions with other medications. This includes over-the-counter drugs and supplements as well. Also, if you're taking any prescription drug for anxiety or depression treatment, talk to your provider about whether it would be safe to take buspirone (or another supplement) with it. Because these medications can affect serotonin levels in your brain, there is potential for an interaction. Tell your provider if you are taking an MAO inhibitor.

Most people tolerate buspirone HCl well, but it can cause side effects, including dizziness, nausea, and headache. Do not drink alcohol while taking buspirone, and do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this drug affects you. Tell your provider if you have ever had kidney or liver disease, or a history of alcohol or drug abuse; these conditions increase your risk of serious side effects from buspirone. Tell your provider if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking buspirone, tell your provider.

Buspirone HCl usually takes 1-2 weeks to have an effect, but it can take up to 6 weeks to reach its full effect. If you're using buspirone for anxiety or generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), talk to your provider about how long you should take it before stopping or switching to another medication.

Consultation
Anyone who requests mental health treatment will be charged a $59 consultation fee. This fee covers a Nurx provider evaluating your intake assessment and creating and prescribing your treatment plan, if medically appropriate. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the initial medical consult fee or the ongoing medication management fee.

Medication
For those paying with insurance: We will bill your insurance directly for your medication and the price to you will depend on the specifics of your plan. Please connect with your insurance company if you would like to learn more about your copay.

For those paying without insurance: Medications start at $25/month.

Monthly medication management
If you receive mental health treatment from Nurx, you will pay a recurring monthly $69 medication management fee. This fee covers a Nurx provider managing your medication needs (including any adjustments) on an ongoing basis. This fee also covers your unlimited messaging with our medical team about your treatment.

Nurx does not accept any federal or state government insurance plans, such as Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, or any of their affiliated managed care plans, nor can Nurx service such patients. We recommend that you find a local provider in your community that participates in your government payer program.
