  • How does this medication work?

    Diflucan® (fluconazole) is an antifungal medication that fights fungal infections in your body. Though you may know about its use for treating yeast infections, it’s actually also used to treat a number of other ailments. Diflucan® works by stopping the growth of Candida in the infected area of the body.

  • What are the side effects of this medication?

    Side effects of Diflucan® include headache, nausea, and upset stomach. Other side effects may occur, including vomiting, dizziness, and a metallic taste in your mouth. Talk to your medical provider if you experience more serious side effects, if you continue to experience symptoms, or if side effects worsen over time.

  • How do I take this medication?

    Take Diflucan® by mouth as directed by your medical provider. Diflucan® can be taken with or without food. Typically, for a vaginal yeast infection the dose is 150 mg taken one time only by mouth. Symptoms usually improve within 1-3 days. Contact your medical provider if symptoms persist.

  • Can I take this medication with other medications?

    Taking Diflucan® with other medications is usually safe. However, it may interact with some medications or supplements, including clopidogrel. Diflucan® may also slow down the removal of other medications from your body, which can affect how they work. To make sure there are no interactions with your medication, tell your medical provider about any prescription drugs, over the counter medications, supplements or herbal remedies you take before starting treatment.

  • Are there any risks when taking this medication?

    Inform your medical provider if you have any allergies. Stop taking your medication if you develop a serious allergic reaction. Before taking Diflucan®, inform your medical provider if you have liver disease, kidney disease, and heart problems. It is best to avoid alcohol while taking Diflucan®. If Diflucan® causes dizziness, do not drive or use machinery. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your medical provider.

  • How quickly does this medication work?

    Diflucan® typically starts working between 24 and 48 hours after you take it, though it may take up to three days for symptoms to improve. If you don’t notice improvement in that time, let your medical provider know.

  • How much does yeast infection treatment from Nurx cost?

    Consultation
    Anyone who requests bacterial vaginosis or yeast infection treatment will be charged a $65 consultation fee. This includes unlimited messaging with our medical team about your treatment (if prescribed) for one week after submitting your treatment request, so you can ask questions about your prescription at any time during that period. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee.

    Medication
    If medication is prescribed, your Nurx medical provider will send the prescription to a pharmacy of your choice for pick-up. You will pay for the medication at the pharmacy and the price will depend on the pharmacy and whether you pay with insurance or out-of-pocket.

  • Does Nurx accept insurance for yeast infection treatment?

    As this treatment is only available for pickup at a local pharmacy near you and is not shipped by Nurx, costs and applicable insurance coverage may vary. Please check with your preferred pharmacy for exact pricing. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee.
