Fact 02

Interrupts fertilization and implantation

Common questions

  • How does this medication work?

For Dasetta 7/7/7® to be effective, you must take one pill every day at the same time, without skipping any doses. Choose a time of day you'll remember, or set a daily reminder for yourself. You'll take the 21 active, hormone-containing pills, followed by the seven inactive, placebo pills before starting a new pack. During the week of inactive pills, you should have your period. After you've finished one pack, immediately start taking the active pills of the next.

  • What precautions should I take when using this medication?

Before taking Dasetta 7/7/7®, tell your health care provider if you have any allergies, particularly to estrogen or progestin. Also tell your provider if you have a history of blood clots, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, cancer, high cholesterol, swelling disorders, severe headaches or migraines, heart problems, stroke, liver or kidney disease, or thyroid problems.

Stop taking Dasetta 7/7/7® if you're pregnant or think you might be pregnant, and tell your health care provider.

  • What are the side effects of this medication?

Due to the hormones it contains, Dasetta 7/7/7® can potentially cause side effects in women who take it. While most women experience few to no effects at all, common side effects of Dasetta 7/7/7® to be aware of include fluid retention in the ankles and feet, breast tenderness, weight changes, bloating, nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Vaginal bleeding between periods may occur, especially in the first few months of use. Serious side effects, while rare, have been documented. These include stroke-like symptoms, lumps in the breast, unusual changes in vaginal bleeding, mood or mental changes, dark urine, severe abdominal pain, or yellowing of the eyes or skin. Blood clots can cause serious and even fatal problems, including deep vein thrombosis, stroke, or heart attack.

  • Can I take this medication with other medications?

Some medications can affect the way Dasetta works and vice versa. For these reasons, always let your health care provider know what medications and supplements you're taking.

Vomiting and diarrhea can also affect Dasetta 7/7/7®'s efficacy if your body hasn't fully metabolized the hormones before you get sick. If you do get physically sick within two hours of taking your pill, take the next active pill in your pack and use a backup form of birth control.

  • Does this medication cause weight gain?

Weight gain is a commonly reported side effect of Dasetta. However, it's usually a result of water retention that occurs within the first weeks and months of starting this pill.

  • Does Dasetta 7/7/7® cause acne?

Dasetta 7/7/7® does not acne in most women. In fact, it can help reduce acne, and some health care providers might prescribe it to women as a way to manage their breakouts. This is because the hormones in these pills reduce the circulation of another type of hormone, androgen, which causes your glands to secrete the oils that can lead to breakouts.

  • How long does it take for this medication to work?

Dasetta becomes fully effective at preventing pregnancy after you've taken it for seven days. When you start taking Dasetta 7/7/7®, you can choose either a Sunday start or a Day 1 start.

With a Sunday start, you take your first active pill on the first Sunday after your period starts. If your period begins on a Sunday, still take the first pill of the pack on that day. Take those active tablets daily for 21 days, followed by seven days of inactive pills. After you've finished the pack, immediately start a new one.

With a Day 1 start, take your first active pill on the first day of your period. Again, take one of the 21 active pills each day, followed by seven days of inactive pills, before moving on to the next pack.

Regardless of which schedule you follow, use a backup form of birth control, such as condoms, for the first seven days while the pill is taking effect.

  • What if I miss a dose?

If you miss an active pill one day, take two pills the next day, then continue taking your daily pills as normal. If you forget to take two active pills in a row during the first two weeks of the pack, take two pills a day for the next two days. Use a backup form of birth control for the next seven days. If you forget to take two active pills during the third week of the pack, throw it away and start a new pack immediately (or keep taking the pills and begin the new pack on Sunday, if you're on the Sunday start schedule). If you miss three active pills at any time, start a new pack.

  • Does Nurx offer birth control to help with medical concerns other than preventing pregnancy?

Your Nurx medical provider will partner with you to find the best care for your symptoms and medical concerns. As medically appropriate, a Nurx provider may prescribe birth control to help manage symptoms associated with PMS (Premenstrual syndrome) and/or PMDD (Premenstrual dysphoric disorder), or to help with cycle control (delayed period). In some cases, birth control may also be used to help manage symptoms of endometriosis and/or PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome), to assist with improving acne. While the use of birth control is considered “off-label” for these listed purposes, a licensed Nurx clinician may prescribe birth control if they deem doing so medically appropriate.

  • How much does birth control from Nurx cost?

    Consultation
Anyone who requests a birth control prescription will be charged a $28 consultation fee. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee.

    Medication
For those with health insurance, your prescription will be free in most cases if it is covered by your health insurance, and we accept your plan. Insurance companies set the “copay” for prescriptions and depending on your plan and the prescription, this will usually be $0. Please connect with your insurance company if you would like to learn more about your copay. If you do have a copay, Nurx will authorize a $30 hold at checkout. If your copay is over $30, you will receive a notification to approve the updated amount.

    Support Fee
Nurx will charge a flat $3 support fee each month one or more of your orders are processed. This fee covers your unlimited, on-demand access to our customer care team as well as certain processing fees. This fee will only be charged once in any month, even if you have multiple orders processed that month. This fee applies whether the order is filled through Nurx or at your local pharmacy. If your order is filled via Nurx, the support fee is billed at the time of fulfillment. If your prescription is sent to a local pharmacy, a support fee will be applied at that time. In the future, the support fee will be applied on a cadence that matches your medication refill cadence.

  • Does Nurx accept insurance for birth control?

Yes, we accept most forms of private health insurance for medications. If you’d like to know if we accept your health insurance plan, please connect with our team at [email protected]. Please note that at this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee.
Nurx does not accept any federal or state government insurance plans, such as Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, or any of their affiliated managed care plans, nor can Nurx service such patients. We recommend that you find a local provider in your community that participates in your government payer program.
