Why Nurx?

Get to Know Opill®

Opill® is a prescription-strength progestin-only pill (sometimes also known as a “minipill”), which means it does not contain estrogen. It’s important to take Opill® at the same time every day for maximum effectiveness. It takes 48 hours to start working, so we recommend barrier method contraception (like condoms) for the first two days to prevent pregnancy.

Opill® Questions?*

  • How do I take Opill®?

Take one tablet at the same time every single day (and no later than 3 hours from the time you took your tablet the day before). Never skip your daily tablet.

Never take a break between packs. When you finish one pack (all 28 tablets), you should start the next pack the following day. Take Opill® every single day, even when you have your period, or if you have spotting or bleeding between periods. Do not skip tablets even if you do not have sex very often.

    To start using Opill®:

You can start your first pack on any day. If you are switching from another oral contraceptive, vaginal ring, or patch, start taking Opill® the day after you stop the other method. You must take your daily tablet at the same time of day every single day. You should use a condom (or another barrier method) every time you have sex during the first 2 days (48 hours) because it takes 2 days to start working.

  • How effective is Opill® at preventing pregnancy?

As with any birth control method, Opill® does not prevent pregnancy all the time. Opill® will work best if you take it exactly as directed. In US clinical trials, approximately 98 out of 100 sexually active women who used Opill® for a year did not become pregnant in that time.

  • What type of oral contraceptive is Opill®?

Opill® is a progestin-only pill (POP). Opill® contains the hormone progestin but does not contain estrogen, so it is different than the commonly used combined oral contraceptive, which contains both estrogen and progestin. Opill® works mainly by thickening your cervical mucus which helps to block sperm from getting to the egg. You must take it every day to prevent pregnancy. In addition, Opill® may prevent your ovaries from releasing eggs. Every one of the 28 tablets in your blister pack contains the active ingredient, so you must take one tablet every day with no breaks.

  • What changes in my menstrual period are normal while using Opill®?

Most changes to periods are to be expected. Continue taking Opill® exactly as directed, even if you have the following changes in your periods:

Your periods may be less or more frequent, shorter or longer, lighter or heavier than before you started Opill®. You may also have some spotting or bleeding between periods. Some women stop having periods while taking Opill®. Take a pregnancy test or talk to a medical provider if your period is late after missing any tablets in the last month, if you have not had a period for 2 months, or if you think you may be pregnant.

Talk to a medical provider AND continue using this product every day if you experience repeated vaginal bleeding that is brought on by sex, or start having menstrual periods that last more than 8 days or are unusually heavy.

  • What if I am late taking my tablet?

Less than 3 hours late: Don't worry. Take 1 tablet immediately and go back to taking your tablet at your usual time the following day.

More than 3 hours late OR you missed one or more tablets:

Take 1 tablet immediately, as soon as you remember.

Then, go back to taking your tablet at your usual time. This means you may take 2 tablets in 1 day. For example, if you usually take your tablet at night, but forget and remember in the morning, take 1 tablet when you remember and take 1 tablet again at the usual time that night.

You must use a condom (or another barrier method) every time you have sex during the 2 days (48 hours) after you restart Opill®, because it takes 2 days to start working again.

Take a pregnancy test or talk to a medical provider if your period is late after missing any tablets in the last month.

  • What if I am taking other medicines or herbal products?

Talk to a medical provider or pharmacist if you are taking or are starting to take medications that treat any of the following conditions, as these may make Opill® less effective:

Seizures (barbiturates, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, topiramate, primidone)

    Tuberculosis (rifampin, rifabutin)

    Pulmonary hypertension (bosentan)

    HIV/AIDS (efavirenz)

St John's Wort (or any herbal products containing hypericum perforatum)

Constant prescription delays

My birth control repeatedly gets delayed for no reason and I can't get an early refill without paying out of pocket. It happens frequently and throws off my hormones badly. I have no idea why this happens and never happened to me with Pill Club. Support is nice but they aren't really able to do anything to help me. Please take people's medication seriously! I've been on it for years and my schedule being disrupted has negatively affected me physically on several occasions. There should be early refills for FREE available if it was the company's fault for delaying the prescription.

I highly recommend NURX

I've been getting my birth control through NURX for almost a decade. I've always had good experiences with every single aspect. Even switching to different brands. They are always responsive and on top of everything. I highly recommend them!

They made it so easy to get birth…

They made it so easy to get birth control, found the right fit for me and they notify when it is getting ready to ship then when it’s shipped. With insurance, it is so cheap! Once insurance changed. They found an alternative to get me and it’s been a wonderful experience.

Never had birth control recieved late.

Never had birth control recieved late.

I get my order on time every three…

I get my order on time every three months without having to do a thing and the birth control has really worked well for me! I’ve recommended Nurx to so many people I can’t recommend them enough.

I love them.

I love them because getting birth control is easy and affordable, I dont have to go to the obgyn to get them. They are mailed directly to me. I also love that they send me an email 2 weeks before they send them. It helps with my budget incase I have to pause that month.

Poor communication, suspicious, and untrustworthy.

Had a consultation to get prescribed birth control. The same day I received a message that there were issues with my insurance, to which I responded asking to adjust information. Somehow, the customer service assumed this meant to cancel my entire order, to which I received multiple confusing messages, no communication about such, and had to ask the same questions several times to even be told that it was canceled. They did not even acknowledge that several different staff members messed up and did not even process a refund until I directly pointed out their mistakes. Do not trust this company to provide you birth control or any prescriptions unless you want to actively feel like you're being scammed and ignored.
