When a woman has a BMI over 35 (you can calculate your BMI here), we often recommend one of two birth control pills: Aviane or Sprintec. Aviane is a low-dose pill (meaning it contains a lower dose of estrogen) and Sprintec is a standard dose pill, but both contain a type of progestin that has a lower risk of causing blood clots in comparison to some other forms of progestin. Try either of these pills for a few months and see what works best for you. However, if you use tobacco products and are overweight, then certain types of birth control may not be safe for you and we suggest speaking with a Nurx provider about the best option.
