Watch How It Works

As you begin headache treatment with Nurx you’ll undergo a neurologist-designed assessment so we can understand your overall health, and determine if at-home treatment is safe for you or if we should refer you to in-person medical care. In addition to asking for a thorough health history, we will prompt you to film yourself completing a series of movements that provide information to our medical team. These videos don't take long and upload directly into our website or app.

Treatment Plans

When you request headache care through Nurx you pay $60 for the initial medical consultation, which includes a licensed provider reviewing your evaluation and (if medically appropriate) writing your prescription. We also provide ongoing care, which includes regular check-ins and unlimited messaging with a Nurx medical provider, so you can ask questions and modify your treatment as needed. This is not covered by insurance and does not include medication. We bill insurance for your medication, or you can pay out-of-pocket (prices below). Delivery is free.

Headache & Migraine Questions?

  • How does headache and migraine treatment with Nurx work?

Nurx headache and migraine treatment is a one-year care plan designed by a neurologist and headache specialist. It includes an online evaluation, medication prescribed and delivered, a headache tracker, and scheduled check-ins with the Nurx medical team.

Patients visit the Nurx website or download the Nurx app and fill out a comprehensive online intake, detailing their headaches and health history. They are then prompted to film a few videos performing simple motions. These videos are uploaded directly into their secure Nurx account.

A trained and licensed member of our medical team will review the patient’s health profile and videos and ask any follow up questions in order to confirm that we can safely and appropriately treat them via telehealth and, if so, will create a personalized headache treatment plan, including prescription medication for acute symptom relief, daily prevention, nausea relief, or all three.

Our pharmacy will fill the prescription and mail medication to the patient’s home. The medication will arrive 3-5 days after the prescription is filled. If we determine that the patient would benefit from a medication that we don’t deliver, we will e-prescribe to the patient’s local pharmacy for in-person pick-up.

As part of the treatment plan, patients will be asked to track the frequency and severity of their headaches in a headache tracker. A Nurx medical provider will check in with the patient about six weeks after treatment begins, and again at six months, and will review the headache tracker and ask the patient questions about how treatment is working. If needed, the Nurx provider may adjust the patient’s treatment plan. In addition, a patient may reach out to our medical team at any time with questions or to request a prescription change.

  • How much does headache and migraine treatment cost through Nurx?

Here is a breakdown of the cost of headache and migraine treatment with Nurx:

Medical consultation and one year of care: To receive headache care through Nurx, our patients pay $60 for the initial medical consultation. This includes our licensed providers reviewing their evaluation, writing prescriptions, conducting regular check-ins, and modifying their personalized treatment plan as needed. The $60 consultation is paid when the patient submits their intake information and video exam for evaluation, and is not covered by insurance. Considering that many people who experience migraines and tension headaches visit an in-person provider several times a year, the price of one year of care through Nurx is a cost-effective way of providing safe and high-quality care. The consultation price does not include medication.

Medication: If you have insurance, Nurx will bill your plan directly and you will only owe the copay (if any) which will depend on your individual plan. If you pay out-of-pocket, Nurx offers affordable pricing ranging from $15-$65 per month depending on your prescriptions.

Shipping: We ship a three-month supply of your medication for free. If you receive a one-month supply (whether by choice or because your insurance plan will only pay for one month of medication at a time), we charge an additional $5 per month for extra processing.

  • What type of migraine and headache treatment does Nurx prescribe?

Nurx offers both pain-relieving medication (which is taken at the beginning of a migraine or headache to help alleviate symptoms) and preventive medications (which are taken daily to help to reduce the severity or frequency of headaches and migraines.)

After reviewing the information you provide in our online intake form and your video assessment, a trained and licensed Nurx medical provider will create a treatment plan for you. If you have taken medication for headaches or migraines in the past, please note that in your online intake, and let our team know whether you did or didn’t find those medications effective.

    Medications We Deliver

Our pharmacy delivers these generic medications to your doorstep.

Triptans: Zolmitriptan Tablets (Zomig); Rizatriptan Benzoate ODT (Maxalt), Sumatriptan (Imitrex)

Anti-nausea Medication: Ondansetron ODT (Zofran), Metoclopramide (Reglan)

    Anticonvulsants: Topiramate (Topamax)

*These medications may be prescribed to prevent certain headaches, but Nurx does not treat depression. If you are experiencing depression you should seek help from a mental healthcare provider.

Medications We Prescribe for Local Pick-Up

If our medical team determines that you’d benefit from a medication not on the list above, we may e-prescribe to a pharmacy near you for pick up. The medications we prescribe for local pick-up include CGRP inhibitors, both gepants (Ubrelvy, Nurtec) and monoclonal antibodies (Emgality, Aimovig), and some triptans, including Eletriptan (Relpax) and Zolmitriptan Nasal Spray (Zomig).

Please note: Nurx does not prescribe any narcotics or barbiturate-based medications.

  • Who can use the headache and migraine service from Nurx?

Nurx will offer treatment for people who have not yet been diagnosed, as well as for people who have been previously diagnosed with headaches or migraines.

A patient who has not yet been diagnosed with headaches or migraines may be able to receive a diagnosis from our medical team, along with options for addressing their headaches or migraines. A patient who has already been diagnosed with headaches or migraines may find that receiving treatment through Nurx is more convenient and provides them improved access to trained medical providers.

All patients will be required to complete the comprehensive intake form and video exam in order for our medical team to determine if it is safe and appropriate to treat them remotely.

  • I’ve already been diagnosed with migraines, do I have to take the video exam or can I just order treatment through Nurx?

All patients are required to complete the comprehensive intake form and video exam prior to submitting a request. This allows our medical team to understand whether it is safe and appropriate for us to treat your headaches via telehealth, or whether you should seek in-person care.

  • Is there a charge for receiving a one-month supply of medication at a time?

Nurx usually sends a three-month supply of medication at a time, which avoids hassle for our patients and means less processing on our end. In some cases insurance companies won’t cover a three-month supply of medication, and will only pay for one month at a time. When we send a one-month supply we charge $5 per shipment for the extra processing involved.

  • Where is Nurx headache and migraine treatment available?

The Nurx headache and migraine treatment will be available to patients in the states we are currently available in and the District of Columbia, encompassing nearly 90 percent of the U.S. population.
