Get to know Slynd®

If you’re looking for an estrogen-free birth control pill, Slynd® may be a suitable option.

TIP 1

Instead of estrogen, Slynd®️ contains the hormone drospirenone, a progestin. Women who wish to avoid estrogen for health reasons or who are breastfeeding may prefer an estrogen-free birth control pill like Slynd®.

TIP 2

Slynd®️ is the only estrogen-free birth control pill with a 24-hour missed pill window, while other progesterone-only pill options have a 3-hour missed pill window. If you miss a pill, take it as soon as you remember, and then take your next dose at your regular time.

TIP 3

With Slynd®️, you get a familiar dosing schedule of 24 hormone pills + 4 placebo pills. If you’ve previously taken an estrogen birth control pill on this schedule, it may be convenient to stick to a familiar routine.

Your healthcare provider can suggest a different method of birth control if SLYND is not a good fit for you.

  • What are the most common side effects of SLYND®?

Slynd® may cause side effects, the most common is irregular bleeding. Other less common side effects may include acne, headache, breast pain and tenderness, weight gain, menstrual cramps, nausea, severe vaginal bleeding, and/or less sexual desire. The packaging is generally discreet, and there is no mention of Nurx or a pharmacy on the outside of the envelope.

  • Why types of birth control does Nurx offer?

We are proud to offer more than 100 types of birth control, including name brand and generic pills plus the patch and vaginal ring. We are happy to try to order specific brands if you request them as well.

  • Does Nurx offer birth control to help with medical concerns other than preventing pregnancy?

A Nurx medical provider licensed in your home state will partner with you to find the best care for your symptoms and medical concerns. As medically appropriate, a Nurx provider may prescribe birth control to help manage symptoms associated with PMS (Premenstrual syndrome) and/or PMDD (Premenstrual dysphoric disorder), or to help with cycle control (delayed period). In some cases, birth control may also be used to help manage symptoms of endometriosis and/or PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome), to assist with improving acne, or for menstrual migraine. While the use of birth control is considered “off-label” for these listed purposes, a licensed Nurx clinician may prescribe birth control if they deem doing so medically appropriate.
