Viorele

Viorele is a birth control pill taken daily. There are 21 active white pills and seven inactive pills, two gray and five peach-colored. Take one white pill for 21 consecutive days and then one inactive tablet per day until you complete the blister pack.

Although Viorele isn't as widely prescribed as other brands, most pharmacies carry it or a generic version. Since we don't carry Viorele here at Nurx™, our professionals can work with your doctor's prescription to determine if we can offer a suitable alternative. We can then mail your birth control directly to you.

Before you start taking any birth control pill, be sure to discuss your medical history with your doctor. You should go over a list of any current medications, over-the-counter drugs, or herbal supplements. Don't take Viorele if you're allergic to any of its ingredients or if you have a history of stroke, heart disease, liver disease, or diabetes complications, like blood vessel damage.

Most side effects of birth control pills like Viorele are mild. The most common side effects include bouts of nausea, vomiting, weight gain, headaches, breast tenderness, spotting, and difficulty wearing contact lenses. Most of these side effects subside within the first three months of taking the pill.

Serious side effects may occur, but they are rare, especially if you are young and in good health. Some women who have taken the pill have an increased risk for blood clots, high blood pressure, liver tumors, and breast cancer, but these side effects are typically related to the duration of use.

In general, yes, you can take Viorele with other medications. Keep in mind, however, that certain hormone-based medications can interfere with Viorele and cause it to lose its effectiveness. You'll need to discuss any prescription medications, herbal supplements, and over-the-counter or recreational drugs you're currently taking with your doctor who can determine if any will negatively interact with your birth control. Viorele has been shown to have moderate drug interactions with Lamictal, levothyroxine, metformin, propranolol, and Xanax, as well as major interactions with tizanidine (Zanaflex). Taking any of these medications with Viorele may cause additional side effects or cause any of these drugs to lose their effectiveness.

Like any birth control pill, Viorele may help keep your skin clear by balancing your hormones. Some women have even reported Viorele has cleared up their cystic acne.

Yes, Viorele contains two hormones: an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (desogestrel). This is common with combination oral contraceptives.

No, Viorele regulates your period. When taken correctly, Viorele should cause you to have your period every month, although your period may be lighter and less painful than normal.
