Like other combination birth control pills, Emoquette works to prevent pregnancy in three different ways. It blocks sperm through a thick cervical mucus, limits the risk of implantation by creating a thin uterine wall, and prevents ovulation from happening. These three steps make Emoquette (and other daily pills) more than 90% effective at preventing pregnancy.

Not only does Emoquette work to prevent pregnancy, but it may also improve period symptoms in some women. A lack of ovulation and a thinner uterine wall may result in lighter periods or even fewer periods. However, every woman is different and will react to birth control in different ways.

You need a prescription from your doctor to begin taking Emoquette. You should be able to find Emoquette at your local pharmacy. Emoquette is known for being an affordable birth control option; however, you may need to pay more depending on your health insurance coverage. Generic alternatives may be a better option for you.

Before you start taking Emoquette, talk with your doctor and let them know about any allergies you have or any medications you are on. You may experience certain side effects while taking Emoquette that differ from person to person. No two people are completely alike, which means your reaction to Emoquette is unique to you. These symptoms are typically mild and may even pass within a few months.

There are, however, a few severe side effects of Emoquette to look out for. These include dizziness, rapid heartbeat, irregular breathing, sudden abdominal pain, unexpected heavy bleeding, lumps in your breast, and depression. Stop taking Emoquette immediately and see a doctor if these symptoms arise.

While some women may notice an increased appetite as a result of taking Emoquette, there is no direct correlation between this medication and weight gain. The weight gain may be temporary as the body adjusts to the medication, or it may simply be water weight.

Emoquette is not approved to treat acne. While you may notice that your acne improves while on the pill, other women experienced minor or no changes to their skin while on the pill.

Emoquette is not effective at preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and STDs. This includes infections like HIV. Consider using additional precautions, like condoms, to prevent the spread of STDs and to protect you and your partner.

Emoquette is also not meant to terminate a pregnancy. If you suspect that you are pregnant, stop taking Emoquette and see your doctor.
