Necon 1/50 is a combination-type hormone birth control that works in a common way to prevent pregnancy. It prevents the release of an egg and changes the cervical mucus to prevent conception. Necon 1/50 is also sometimes used to reduce the occurrence of ovarian cysts and to treat the symptoms of endometriosis.
At this time Nurx does not offer Necon 1/50, but we carry similar birth control options available for delivery. Just answer a few quick questions and one of our licensed providers will help find the birth control that’s right for you. Click here to get started.
- How Does Necon 1/50 Work?
Necon 1/50 is a hormone-based birth control that is taken daily at the same time every day. For the first 21 days, you will take a white pill that contains the estrogen and progestin. Then, you will swap to the orange placebo pills which are used as a reminder pill. You should start your period as you begin the placebo pills. Then, you will start the cycle all over with a new pack of Necon 1/50.
- Is Necon 1/50 Easy to Get?
Yes! Necon 1/50 is a safe and effective choice of birth control that we often recommend here at Nurx™. You will need a prescription to fill Necon 1/50 though. Nurx™ can help you by connecting you to a licensed doctor in your home state. After speaking with your Nurx™ doctor, we will ship your birth control to your mailbox in a discreet package.
Nurx™ also works with most health insurance policies. No insurance? No problem! Nurx™ can help you choose an affordable generic option that fits within your budget. Our mission at Nurx™ is to provide affordable and convenient healthcare to women everywhere!
- What Are Some Precautions I Should Take Before Using Necon 1/50?
It is always a good idea to discuss your health history with your doctor or a Nurx™ healthcare provider before starting Necon 1/50. An allergic reaction to the progestin or estrogen is unlikely, but always a possibility. An allergic reaction may include symptoms like rash, facial swelling, and difficulty breathing.
Necon 1/50 may also increase your blood pressure. It is important to notify your healthcare professional if you have a history of high blood pressure. Diabetics should also regularly monitor their blood sugar levels when taking Necon 1/50.
- Are There any Known Side Effects of Necon 1/50?
Although unlikely, some women may experience side effects when taking Necon 1/50. Side effects might include headaches, nausea, vomiting, tender breasts, bloating, and fluid retention. Serious side effects are very rare, but possible, and include blood clots, severe migraines, vision changes, and breathing difficulties.
It can be scary to hear about potential side effects with a medication that you are considering taking. However, it is important to keep in mind that very few women will experience side effects. Discussing your health history with a Nurx™ healthcare professional can help you make the right birth control choice.
- Can I Take Necon 1/50 With Other Medications?
Generally yes, Necon 1/50 is a safe birth control choice that you can take with other medications. However, you will want to share a list of your current medications and supplements with your healthcare provider before starting Necon 1/50. Some medications like aromatase inhibitors, chronic Hepatitis C medications, and muscle-spasm medications may interact with Necon 1/50.
Additionally, some medications like St. Johns wort and anti-seizure medications may also interfere with the effectiveness of Necon 1/50 and its ability to prevent pregnancy.
- Does Necon 1/50 Cause Acne?
There is no research that shows that Necon 1/50 causes acne. In fact, Necon 1/50 is often prescribed to treat moderate hormone-based acne.
- Does Necon 1/50 Cause Yeast Infections?
Necon 1/50 does contain active ingredients that can change the body's hormone levels which may make it easier for the yeast to grow. However, birth control does not directly cause yeast infections. Your Nurx™ healthcare professional may be able to recommend medication or diet changes that can help to combat frequent yeast infections.
