The IUD is a small device that is inserted into the uterus by a medical provider that prevents pregnancy long term. There are multiple types of IUDs, including hormonal and copper IUDs.
Skyla is an intrauterine device containing the hormone progestin. Skyla is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy by blocking sperm from reaching an egg through thickening of cervical mucus. At this time, Nurx™ does not offer Skyla.
ParaGard is a hormone-free T-shaped intrauterine device made of copper and plastic. ParaGard is inserted into the uterus by a health care provider using an applicator tube. The applicator is inserted into the cervical canal to align the IUD and place it into the uterus. ParaGard provides protection against pregnancy for up to 10 years.
ParaGard is small and made of soft, flexible plastic so women shouldn’t feel it once its in place. This hormone-free device is ideal for women who have had trouble using hormonal birth control methods such as the pill. Currently, Nurx™ does not provide ParaGard.
Liletta is an intrauterine device (IUD), or a T-shaped piece of plastic, that releases hormones over the course of five years. While our team at Nurx™ does not offer Liletta, knowing that this type of birth control is an option can help you make the best decision possible for your reproductive health.
Liletta is safe for most women to use and is approved for women who have not had children. If you choose Liletta for your birth control, you can still have children in less than five years. You can ask your health care provider to remove the IUD and after a few months, your body should return to its normal menstrual flow.
Kyleena is an intrauterine device (IUD) which is inserted into the uterus by a health care provider. While our team at Nurx™ does not offer Kyleena, it is helpful to learn about this form of birth control if you are thinking of switching to a long-term option instead of the one you currently use.
Kyleena is a five year IUD, which means it can prevent pregnancy for up to five years after insertion. However, if you decide that you are ready to have kids or no longer want to stay on Kyleena, your health care provider can remove the IUD for you.
While Nurx™ provides affordable and safe birth control pills conveniently delivered right to your door, for some women, taking a pill every day is not convenient. That’s why the branded IUD Mirena is such a good alternative. This implantable device is 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy for up to five years. Want to learn more? Although we don’t offer Mirena here at Nurx, we created a short FAQ to help you understand more about this option.
