Birth Control
Anyone who requests a birth control prescription will be charged a $15 consultation fee. This includes unlimited messaging with our medical team about your birth control for one year so you can request prescription changes or ask questions, any time during that period. At this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consult fee. Patients will need to complete a new annual consultation, including any related fees, when a prescription is up for renewal.
For those with health insurance, your prescription will be free in most cases as it will be covered by your health insurance. Insurance companies set the “copay” for prescriptions, and depending on your plan and the prescription, this will usually be $0. Please connect with your insurance company if you would like to learn more about your copay.
For those without insurance, Nurx offers birth control brands that start at $15 per month. If you’d like a price estimate for a specific brand or type of birth control, please connect with our team at [email protected].
Emergency Contraception
Anyone who requests a prescription for emergency contraception will be charged a $15 consultation fee. This covers your online medical consultation by a Nurx medical provider and includes unlimited messaging with our medical team about your emergency contraception request. At this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for the medical consultation fee.

PrEP
Anyone who requests a PrEP evaluation will be charged a $15 consultation fee. This covers your online medical consultation and review of your lab test results, and includes unlimited messaging about PrEP with our medical team until your next renewal — so you can ask questions about your lab tests or medication any time during that period. At this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for this consult fee. Each time you order a new test kit and evaluation for renewal of your prescription you will be charged a $15 medical consultation fee.
Truvada for PrEP is an expensive medication, but we’re proud of the fact that 99% of Nurx PrEP patients pay nothing out-of-pocket for their medication.
Here’s how this works: Our team will bill your insurance. We’ll also walk you through the process of enrolling in any co-pay or patient assistance programs that may apply. In many cases these programs cover 100% of the cost for the medication, meaning the out-of-pocket cost for Truvada for PrEP is $0.
If you’d like to learn more about how much PrEP will cost for you, please connect with our team at [email protected].
Before you begin PrEP you must get lab tests to confirm that you are HIV negative and have healthy kidneys. You’ll re-do these tests every three months after beginning PrEP. Our preferred testing option is home-based lab testing through our partner lab, which is an option in every state we are available in except for New York. We are committed to providing a convenient and cost-effective home testing option for our PrEP patients.
For those paying without insurance:
$199 for comprehensive testing, which includes all of the necessary tests to get on PrEP + extra testing for additional sexually transmitted infections (STIs); OR
$129 for basic testing which includes all of the testing necessary to get on and stay on PrEP
For those paying with insurance:
We will charge you $35 to cover the cost of the PrEP lab test kit. Once your tests have been processed by our partner lab, they will bill your insurance and you will be responsible for any out-of-pocket costs (in addition to the above $35 fee) including copays and deductibles associated with your plan.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: If you receive a bil, it will come directly from our lab partner, Molecular Testing Labs. Any Explanation of Benefits from your insurance company regarding the lab services will not list us, but rather Molecular Testing Labs or their affiliates.
If you’d prefer not to do home testing you are welcome to have your labs done at a local lab like LabCorp or Quest. Once you have submitted your request for PrEP, simply message us and tell us that you would like lab testing at LabCorp or Quest. Pricing at local labs is dependent on your insurance coverage. We recommend calling your insurance company in advance to confirm whether LabCorp or Quest is the in-network laboratory.
If you contact your insurance company to clarify your coverage for laboratory testing, we’d recommend asking them the following questions:
Do I have to use an in-network lab for lab testing?
If yes: What laboratories are covered?
Is Molecular Testing Labs covered?
Do I have a deductible for lab testing?
If your insurance company asks, tell them these are the tests that will be ordered for PrEP: HIV 4th generation antibody/antigen test, serum creatinine, hepatitis B surface antigen (all required), and (optionally) syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia testing (rectal swab, throat swab, urine collection).
STI
Anyone who requests an STI Home Test Kit will be charged a $15 consultation fee. The consultation fee provides patients with unlimited access to the Nurx medical team regarding their STI results.
Without health insurance, Basics Covered costs $150; Healthy Woman costs $190, and Full Control costs $220. These prices include the kit, the lab testing, and shipping both ways.
With health insurance, each test kit costs $75 and any applicable copays or deductibles. If you pay with insurance, your out-of pocket-expense will depend on whether our partner lab, Molecular Testing Labs, is in-network with your insurance and on your specific plan’s coverage. Once you’ve submitted your samples, MTL will then bill your insurance for the lab services – and you will only be responsible for any out of pocket costs. Please check here to see if your insurance is in-network: What insurance plans have Molecular Testing Labs in-network?
If your insurance is out-of-network with Molecular Testings Labs then you will be billed a negotiated rate of $99 for lab testing and the lab will bill you directly.
HPV
Anyone who requests a home HPV test will be charged a $15 consultation fee. This covers your online medical consultation by a Nurx medical provider and includes unlimited messaging about your HPV test with our medical team for one year — so you can ask questions at any time during that period. At this time, we do not submit claims to insurance for this medical consult fee.
You will be charged $15 for the HPV lab test kit, whether you are insured or not.
For those without health insurance, you will be charged $79 for the HPV test kit and lab work.
For those with health insurance, you will be charged an initial $49 for the HPV test kit. Once your tests have been processed by our partner lab, they will bill your insurance and you will be responsible for any out-of-pocket costs (beyond the $49) including copays and deductibles associated with your plan.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: If you receive a bill, it will come directly from our lab partner, Molecular Testing Labs. Any Explanation of Benefits from your insurance company regarding the lab services will not list us, but rather Molecular Testing Labs or their affiliates.
