How does a throat swab work?

Take the collection swab to brush the back of the throat, leaving a sample on the swab. Then place the swab into the collection tube. Gonorrhea and chlamydia are known to infect the tissues at the back of the throat – oral sex is a risk factor for infection in this part of the body. If you have been infected with gonorrhea or chlamydia, the lab will be able to detect this based on the sample.
