Triphasil-28

Triphasil-28 is a combination oral contraceptive that is taken by mouth at the same time every day. This medication comes in a kit of 28 tablets with varying doses of the female hormones estrogen and progestin. These hormones are combined to primarily stop ovulation, the release of an egg from the ovary. If ovulation should take place, Triphasil-28 works to create changes to thicken vaginal fluid and impede the progress of sperm to penetrate an egg (fertilization). If sperm were to fertilize an egg, Triphasil-28 further acts to change the lining of the uterus to keep fertilized eggs from attaching to the uterine wall (implantation). Fertilized eggs are safely passed out of the body when they fail to attach.

Our team at Nurx™ can prescribe Triphasil-28 at special request, or can offer the generic equivalent Trivora for as low as $0 with insurance or as little as $15 without insurance.

A kit of Triphasil-28 includes 28 color-coded tablets containing different amounts of estrogen and progestin. It's important to take Triphasil-28 as directed for it to work correctly and effectively.

The Triphasil-28 regimen is as follows:

    • Take the brown tablets containing 0.050 mg levenorgestrel (progestin)  and 0.030 of ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) for six days.

    • Take the green tablets containing inert ingredients for the remaining seven days.

While you're taking the final seven green tablets, you should have your period. Begin the next pack of Triphasil-28 whether or not your period starts.

In addition to birth control, Triphasil-28 offers other benefits such as acne treatment. Triphasil-28 can help regulate your periods and make periods lighter and less painful. With long-term use, Triphasil-28 may help prevent the development of ovarian cancer.

Store Triphasil-28 in a cool, dry place where it's easy for you to remember to take your pill at the same time each day.

  • What Precautions Should I Take Before Using Triphasil-28?

When introducing a new medication, consider your current conditions, medications, and upcoming procedures to determine if Triphasil-28 is the right choice for you.

Oral contraceptives can elevate blood pressure, increasing the risk for heart disease. Women with significant hypertension and women over 35 who smoke are cautioned against using oral contraceptives. Diabetic women are advised to monitor blood sugar levels carefully while taking oral contraceptives. Talk to your doctor about Triphasil-28 since triphasic contraception may have less impact on blood pressure and blood glucose than other hormone combinations.

The use of combination oral contraceptives may elevate liver enzymes. Women who are in treatment for Hepatitis C are advised to wait a few weeks following the completion of treatment before starting Triphasil-28.

Allergic reactions to Triphasil-28 are rare. If you experience symptoms like rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing, you may be having an allergic reaction. Seek medical attention if you develop symptoms of an allergic reaction.

Contact lens wearers may experience discomfort or intolerance to their lenses while taking Triphasil-28. Talk to your vision care specialist about your lenses and contraceptive compatibility.

Triphasil-28 can interfere with test results. If you are scheduled for procedures or lab tests, consider waiting until procedures are complete before starting Triphasil-28.

While Triphasic-28 is effective birth control, it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases or infections.

  • Are There Any Known Side Effects?

When introducing a new medication, side effects are pretty common. Most women report breast tenderness, fluid retention, and spotting as common side effects. For women who experience nausea or vomiting while taking Triphasil-28 , it's a good idea to take this medication with a meal or at bedtime to avoid compromising the effectiveness of Triphasil-28.

Although they are rare, serious side effects have been reported as mood swings, severe abdominal pain, or yellowing of the skin. Notify your doctor if you experience serious effects like pain in the jaw or chest, confusion, or sudden dizziness while taking Triphasil-28.

  • Can I Take Triphasil-28 With Other Medications?

Speak to your healthcare provider about medications and supplements you're taking since oral contraceptives can interact with certain medications. Some medications may reduce the amount of hormone in your body, check with your doctor before beginning Triphasil-28.
